Laying to rest the rumors from past week, Raspberry Foundation announces the launch of Raspberry Pi 2. Though there was much expectation of significant upgrade, it is still a disappointing release.
- Form factor : Same as the model B+ (should be able to use existing your enclosures)Ethernet : 10/100 Ethernet port (shared usb and ethernet – no speed upgrades)
- micro USB power supply connection
- micros SD boot & storage (eMMC would have been sweet)
- A new Broadcom BCM2836 900MHz quad-core SoC (ARMv7 !!)
- 1GB of RAM
Now for the good part:
All ARMv7 software leveraging multi threaded applications should be available. There would be speed and performance gains. Android ports would be available expanding the use cases. Netflix which was long standing request from many users would finally be available on this platform.
Another breaking news is that Microsoft is porting Windows 10 on this. This would be made available for free via Windows Developer Program for IoT.
