Attended the Maker Faire New York 2013 (Sep 21-22). Was astounded by crowds and participation. It looks like the movement is really taking off and is coming into mainstream. It is common to see these events routinely pull crowds of 30,0000 to 40,000 visitors.
Great organization and very kid friendly.
As the event has grown, both in terms of attendance and corporate sponsorship, it has become a magnet for families looking for hands-on learning that could augment science, engineering and math education, while helping to develop the next generation of what has been called, the “maker movement,” a renaissance in building, making and fixing things yourself. – NY Times
